Our mission

Our mission is to illuminate the journey of Type 1 Diabetes through the power of storytelling and the strength of community. Inspired by the bond between a brother and his loyal best friend, we strive to provide families with a sanctuary of high-quality literature and reliable resources that transform a complex diagnosis into an empowered way of life. By amplifying the voice of a sibling advocate and celebrating the allies who stand by our warriors, we aim to foster a world where no child walks the path of T1D alone—ensuring that every "high" and "low" is met with understanding, grace, and the unwavering support of a village.

Our vision

Our vision is to cultivate a future where every child diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes feels seen, celebrated, and supported by a world that truly understands their journey. We envision The Adventures of Buck and Chuck becoming a cornerstone of childhood resilience—a series that sits on every family’s bookshelf to bridge the gap between medical management and the simple joy of being a kid. We see this platform evolving into a global tapestry of stories and resources, where the lessons of empathy and allyship transcend the diagnosis, inspiring a new generation of friends, siblings, and advocates to lead with heart and walk together in confidence.

A Note from the Webmaster:

It began with a simple phone call from a good friend—a request for guidance in building a digital home for a collection of stories written by his sixteen-year-old daughter. When I asked about the heart of the books, he shared that his ten-year-old son had recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. To help him navigate this new reality, his older sister had begun to chronicle his journey through the adventures of two best friends: Buck and Chuck.

The request resonated with me more deeply than I could have anticipated. My own family history is intertwined with the challenges of this condition; I remember the profound weight of my brother’s diagnosis in his early twenties, and I carry the memories of my grandparents’ struggle with diabetes in an era long before the advancements of modern medicine.

This project was no longer just a favor; it was a calling.

I immersed myself in the world of T1D, seeking to understand the daily resilience required of these families. I consulted with colleagues and researched the best ways to build a platform that the family could eventually call their own. The more I learned, the more I felt a quiet certainty that I was meant to be the one to bring this vision to life.

The final confirmation arrived in the most serendipitous of ways. During a quiet dinner, I opened a fortune cookie to find a single, striking sentence: “A challenging and fascinating project is in your future.”

The next morning, I called my friend with a renewed sense of purpose. "I’m in," I told him. "Let’s build this together."
